This has got to put

This has got to put a smile on your face: Apple – PowerBook G4 17″. At 17 inches, the screen is the largest to be fitted to a laptop. At 1440×900 pixels, it’s not the highest resolution available on a laptop. But, I’ve seen 1600×1200 pixels squeezed onto smaller LCD panels and it’s not pretty. I’ve used a Dell Latitude with a smaller LCD that ran at 1600×1200 natively. The eyestrain and the headaches were not worth it. This has to tempt some technogeeks into switching.

The software included with new Macs is also a huge incentive to switch. iMovie, iPhoto, iTunes and iDVD are all great pieces of software. The proliferation of software for Windows based PCs used to be a huge selling point for Windows. However, I believe it is now easier to find better software, for less money, on the Mac platform.

You can do a lot more out of the box with a Mac. Apple is right on the money with their whole digital hub strategy. Most people I know, who aren’t power users, are using their computers for their digital photos and music. iPhoto and iTunes comes with all new Macs and makes working with digital photos and music simple.

Have a camcorder? No problem, iMovie is powerful and easy to use. I know at least one person who bought a Mac just to run iMovie. Yes, Final Cut Pro is more powerful, but nowhere near as easy to use as iMovie. iMovie is probably more power than most people need anyway.

So, why not switch already? The only thing that prevents me from recommending all my friends buy Macs without qualification is the stranglehold Windows has on the business market. Some people may find it hard to be a Mac user in an all Windows business world. Although, the de facto business productivity suite, Microsoft Office, is also available on the Mac. Hopefully, it will be easier to use a Mac in the largely Windows world as more and more people use Macs and create a greater demand for interoperability and compatibility.
