Bargain Electronics Carry Hidden Cost

Mike Langberg examines the hidden costs of bargain basement electronics in the Seattle Times. He suggests that the sub-$30 DVD players on sale, as of late, are subsidized by workers being paid less than the United States minimum wage working in sweatshop conditions. He also makes the obligatory reference to that evil corporate monstrosity known as Wal-Mart. Five members of the Walton family enjoy having the fourth highest net worth in the country. They have accomplished this on the backs of people barely making enough to survive. Hopefully, we will not have to be witness to one of them sobbing about how they’ve lost everything while sitting in a multi-million dollar manse like a certain former Enron executive’s wife.
