Chicago not really the murder capital
As noted earlier, Chicago was named the murder capital of the U.S. last year. Pat Cunningham, of the Rockford Register Star points out that this is a bit misleading. While Chicago may lead the country in total number of homicides, Gary, Indiana has a much higher per capita murder rate. So, statistically speaking, there is a much greater possibility of being murdered in Gary than there is in Chicago.
Some miscellaneous facts about Gary:
Gary is the hometown of the king of pop, Michael Jackson. He doesn’t live there anymore. He doesn’t live at the infamous Neverland ranch anymore, either. He’s renting some new digs in Beverly Hills and says he can never call Neverland home again.
Donald Trump owns at least one casino in Gary and has been trying to raise Gary’s profile by bringing his Miss USA pageant to Gary. It’s kind of funny because usually half the fun of being a contestant in one of these pageants is going to some nice sunny or exotic locale and spending some time exploring while the cameras follow you around. I can’t imagine there’s much to do in Gary besides going to Trump’s casino and trying to keep yourself from getting killed.
