Car Talk Dumps Real

A few posts ago I was lamenting the fact that This American Life, as well as most of the programs on Chicago Public Radio, only make their streaming audio available in the RealMedia format. Well, I’m not the only one who is annoyed with RealNetworks. The guys over at Car Talk have dumped RealMedia in favor of Windows Media. I suppose it is the lesser of two evils. However, I wish they would have went with QuickTime or streaming MPEG 3 or 4. Although, I can understand if they wanted to be able to enforce some kind of DRM—which may be difficult to do with the current version of QuickTime, although I could be wrong about that. What I do know is that the OS X version of Windows Media Player sucks.

    Hey Bri,

I think I am the only person….EVER to leave a comment on your site. Pretty impressive though, did you create all of it? I assume so. But your own search engine? C’mon, that’s overkill. Just kidding. Now I know what you do with your free time.

Hey Steve. You aren’t the only person ever to leave a comment, but it seems that you have started a trend! I didn’t create the site from scratch. Most of it is out of the box (moveabletype.org) including the search engine. I just customized the look and feel.

Hey Rich. I was wondering what you were up to these days. Congratulations on your new place. It sounds like everyone is moving to the South Loop. I bought a place in the Prairie District Homes about four blocks south of you on Prairie. I say we all go over to Yo’s place everyday for dinner. :)

I will second this. NPR has a nasty habit of making everything RM-based, which sucks for us Mac junkies. Wake up, NPR, you have a huge Mac following!
