Buffett’s philanthrophy may benefit Chicago

So here’s the Chicago spin on Warren Buffett’s donation to the Gates Foundation: The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has donated over $85MM to Chicago area institutions over the last eight years. A large portion of this money has benefited the Chicago Public School (CPS) system.

Buffett has attached some conditions to the funds he is donating to the Gates Foundation. Buffett will donate a set amount of money each year. His conditions stipulate that the foundation must spend all of it within a year. There has been some speculation that Chicago–CPS in particular–will receive a good deal of this money. NBC 5 News interviewed CPS CEO, Arne Duncan, last night and he seemed optimistic that CPS would receive even greater funding from the Gates Foundation in the future.
