Oh, the Audacity of Hope!
Barack Obama has long avoided any talk about a possible bid for the presidency. However, lately, he's been entertaining the idea a bit more openly. This morning he's gone one step further and filed papers to create a presidential exploratory committee. He plans on publicly announcing his decision to run (or not to run) on February 10 in his home state of Illinois. Even if he does plan on running, he'll still have to contend with Hilary Clinton in the primaries first. It's projected that his campaign will be the most expensive one ever if he decides to run against Clinton.
Obama mentioned, in his statement this morning, that he would have to consider his family in his decision. His immediate family has strong ties to Chicago: His wife, Michelle, is a Chicago native and the Vice President for Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Their children also attend the University of Chicago Laboratory School.
