Vista apparently not worth the long wait

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Erika Jonietz, a long time Microsoft apologist (self-proclaimed, nonetheless), found Vista so underwhelming and disappointing that she switched to OS X. I've never seen so lukewarm a reaction to a major operating system release. The overwhelming consensus seems to be that Microsoft rushed things (even though Vista is long overdue) and released an OS that's [...]

T-Mobile, Verizon, and the Motorola Q

Friday, July 14th, 2006

I recently switched from Verizon to T-Mobile. I switched because T-Mobile’s call quality and coverage sucked and because Verizon is currently the exclusive carrier of the Motorola Q. I’m very happy with Verizon’s call quality and coverage. It’s much better than T-Mobile in the city and the ‘burbs. However, you definitely pay for it. Verizon [...]

End of the line for the Comcast guy

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

The Comcast technician that was caught on video sleeping at a customer’s apartment was fired. A regional vice president from Comcast called the customer and sent out a team of technicians to fix the customer’s problem. It’s unfortunate that it took this much public humiliation to get Comcast to provide an acceptable level of customer [...]

The Intonation Music Festival is this weekend at Union Park. Samsung unveiled a new line of ultra-slim phones that best Motorola’s offerings. The thinnest one is only 6.9mm thick. Backlight Visualizer for iTunes on MacOS X: Makes your keyboard backlight pulse to the beat of the music. Here’s a video demonstration. Video of a comcast [...]

Safari “Mail Contents of This Page” for Firefox?

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

Does anyone know if there is a Firefox extension that emulates the functionality of Safari’s “Mail Contents of This Page” command (available under the File menu)? The command allows you to send the actual HTML content of a web page as an HTML mail message. I find this useful for short articles. It saves the [...]

As if Windows isn’t bad enough already, Windows XP users are now reporting trouble maintaining WiFi connections. So, those of you with XP and WiFi, I suppose you can find some consolation in the fact that it’s not just you. Read the full article: Wired News: Windows XP Bedevils Wi-Fi Users

Microsoft, Friend of the People

Monday, January 19th, 2004

Corporate behemoth, Microsoft, has decided to sue Mike Rowe for registering the domain mikerowesoft.com. The well-intentioned 17-year-old Canadian high schooler does web design on the side when he’s not busy with school. He made a whopping $1,000 last year. I don’t even think the IRS will tax you on earnings that low. He innocently registered [...]

TiVo-a-go-go

Friday, January 9th, 2004

TiVo has just announced the release of TiVo-to-Go. This finally allows TiVo owners to transfer recorded video to their computers. The only catch is that you need a dongle attached to your computer when either recording or watching content. I suppose this is a first step, but I’m disappointed to see this feature hobbled by [...]

Bargain Electronics Carry Hidden Cost

Sunday, January 4th, 2004

Mike Langberg examines the hidden costs of bargain basement electronics in the Seattle Times. He suggests that the sub-$30 DVD players on sale, as of late, are subsidized by workers being paid less than the United States minimum wage working in sweatshop conditions. He also makes the obligatory reference to that evil corporate monstrosity known [...]

Saturday, January 3rd, 2004

Dell is offering zero percent financing for consumers on purchases over $500 until June 2004. While Reuters is reporting that the offer is valid for 12 month financing, Dell’s website says that the zero percent financing deal is only good until June 2004.
